What a difference a day makes 🎼🎶
We set off at 9am and drove through picturesque views arriving around 11:30am.
Chamonix Mont Blanc (its full name) is a very pretty ski-resort town with much more of an Alpine look and feel than anywhere we’ve been so far. It was busy, but not in the same way as in the other places we’ve visited. Here, people seemed cheerful, in holiday mood, many in hiking gear, enjoying their surroundings, not “just going about their business”.
There was a race in progress (we never established exactly what) but it was significant enough to have attracted TV film crews and reporters. A fun backdrop to our visit, never interfering with our time there.
We used two pavement cafés. One served Margaret with a wonderful gaufre (waffle) drowning in Chantilly cream. At the other we tried some never before heard of potato cakes. Thinly riced potato pressed into a thick pancake shape, seasoned and deep fried to very crispy. Not a rösti, they resembled German kartoffelpuffer, but not quite. Wow!
We finished our time with some souvenir shopping buying a few small items mostly just for fun.
Leaving at 3pm we were back at the hotel for 5:30pm to begin the ritual of packing for the journey home. Margaret has it nailed. For me? Spectator sport!
Another good dinner ended our last day in Savoie.
