Many hotels like to include the word “Grand” in their name. This is one of the few that deserves the accolade.
It’s a massive property that caters for large conferences as well as groups and individuals. Whilst we were there, there were a number of these. One, which ran over a few days, may have had over 500 registrations. None of this interferes with other guests. They have several beautifully decorated and presented dining rooms, “coffee break” areas and seating so, whilst feeling busy at times, it was never crowded. There are enough very well trained staff to cope. Speed and quality of service doesn’t seem to be affected by having several large groups in residence.
The grounds are magnificent. Manicured and perfectly maintained garden areas, an outdoor pool, a lakeside beach with loungers and topiary everywhere.
Outside the large, comfortable bar is a lake-view terrace to relax. We met up with fellow travellers a few times to chat, have a drink and watch boats sail by.
Our room overlooked the lake and was well equipped. The balcony was another place to pass time watching the waters.
Its location is perfect, perhaps a 2 minute stroll to the boat station where frequent services are available to all the local towns and the Borromean Islands.
The location and quality of the hotel, together with the relaxing atmosphere and beautiful, easily accessible, destinations put this in our top 3 tours - we’ve already booked our return for 2026!
