Our hotel is located, overlooking the shale beach, about 10 minutes walk from the town centre. It’s a typical early Edwardian seaside property, well maintained and presented.
We secured a (paid) room upgrade for a sea-view room - well worth it, as it had a bay window with a coffee table and chairs to watch the waves (and the many joggers) roll along the shoreline. Housekeeping was also impressive. Everything we’d used was replaced and the room left spotless and tidy.
An important part of a holiday hotel is food and service, so often a disappointment on our Leger trips. Not so here. The dining room was set up with elegantly dressed tables and a more than adequate number of friendly staff (admittedly, a few appeared to be “still training”).
The dinner menu had a choice of 4x starters, 4x main courses and 5x deserts, with coffee or tea served at the table to finish (that’s so unusual anywhere!). The courses we selected were beautifully presented. They were, perhaps, a little monotonous. following a typical English dinner format. Nonetheless, delicious.
Breakfast was “full English”, and/or a continental selection served by waiters, not the usual buffet arrangement. You also choose your dinner selections at breakfast. I prefer this when in a group (some people don’t) as I feel it smooths and speeds up service at dinner.
The wine list had a good selection, but (as is typical with UK hotels) imaginatively (over)priced. However, there were jugs of iced water on the tables at dinner, so the absence of the usual rip-off “bottled water only” ploy balanced the ledger.
We wouldn’t have the slightest hesitation in staying here again.
