Metz to Home

After a reasonable breakfast, we left Metz around 06:30 arriving in Calais in good time for some duty-free shopping before boarding the 12:50 DFDS ferry.

No issues buying Club Lounge tickets this time, so we relaxed on an uneventful channel crossing.

Off in Dover at 13:30 BST and into glorious M25 traffic jams - that’s Friday afternoon around London for you.

We arrived in Llantrisant at 19:30 and hoped to be home by 20:00ish.

It had been such a relaxed, uneventful, well-organised, well-accommodated and overall great holiday, the travel god had planned its revenge. Road closures around the A4232 for major resurfacing diverted all traffic between Penarth/Barry and Cardiff through the (normally congested) Llandough. A normally 2 minute stretch of road took over 30 minutes to travel.

So what! We were home by 20:30, kettle on.

A really good holiday over.

Weather:

Broken cloud and sunny spells with occasional showers. 20ºC to 17ºC
