“Fingers crossed” yesterday worked! We were served an excellent dinner and breakfast, whilst unembellished continental, was fresh and plentiful.

Add to that, today the weather defied its depressing forecast and the sun came out around 09:30 and stayed out most of the day. Temperatures according to one street thermometer reached 26ºC (I thought perhaps 23ºC).

Ajaccio is famous for three things: pirates, the Maquis, and it’s Napoleon Bonaparte’s birthplace and childhood home. It makes the most of these with souvenirs, “places of interest” and statues. Additionally, it has a marina with craft also seen on the Côte d’Azure, a ferry terminal, shady parks and an abundance of pavement cafés. Nothing spectacular; all very pleasant for exploring, which we did.

We then spent the rest of the afternoon on our balcony watching the world and boats go by. Great to have a bit of down-time after the days of touring.

Fingers crossed again that tonight’s dinner is as good as yesterday’s.
