Our last day in Sardinia today, although we have a full day of touring as our ferry’s not scheduled to leave until 22:30.

We crossed the island from east to west coast to visit Alghero, experiencing more of the island’s unique local climate.  We left the hotel in sunshine, passed through rain and drizzle, arriving in lightly clouded sunny weather again.

Alghero is a very pretty town, with a harbour area, coastal promenade, what appears to be the now mandatory “eye” wheel,  and a typical “old town” with narrow streets and old buildings. We had a really pleasant stroll around a café visit.

On our journey back to Olbia, the morning’s rain was replaced by thunder & lightning! However, once again we arrived in warm, pleasant sunshine. Our planned 2 hour visit turned into 4 hours when the ferry line phoned to say they were running late. Not the worst thing. We had a good look around and then found (luck was with us) a really pleasant little café with friendly staff where we spent nearly 2 hours with drinks, panini (brilliant) and chat. As darkness fell the local mandatory “eye” was lit with an ever changing light-show… good for 15 minutes entertainment. We were on-board by 22:00 and sailed (I’m told - I was asleep!) at 00:30. The cabin was clean and comfortable enough.

Starting our journey north from Livorno, Italy to Macon, France though the Alps tomorrow.
