“The Hills are Alive with the Sound of Music”. Not on this coach. The optional S-o-M walking tour was cancelled for undersubscription.

We’ve been to Salzburg a few time before, although most recently 6 years ago, so we revisited some of the places we’d previously enjoyed.

First we took the funicular railway to the castle for fantastic views across the city and to enjoy its architecture and walkways.

After our return to the city streets, we took a walk through the cemetery featured in the S-o-M. It may seem weird to say, but it is a fascinating and charming place to visit.

We spent the rest of our time strolling around the many beautiful squares and streets taking in the sights. We had plenty of time, so Salzburg became a two café city. The first, just after arrival, was what we think of as standard Austria - comfortable, clean & expensive. Our second, after sitting down for a while, we realised was attached to the Radisson Blu hotel. Feeling like a snack, we ordered some potato wedges with our drinks. This café should be awarded three Michelin Stars just for the amazing flavour and crispiness of those wedges. Boy-o-boy!

On this tour, every day’s a good day.
