A bonus today. What the itinerary listed as a resort day became an offer of a trip to Sanremo & Dolceaqua for the ridiculously low cost of €12pp. Not only do our crew strive to look after you, they have no inclination to make a profit-centre out of you. So impressed. We departed at 09:45
Sanremo is (perhaps) Italy’s attempt to challenge Monte Carlo. A casino on a grand scale on the edge of a charming small town, lovely to explore, and a Russian Orthodox church - small, but very Russian.
There was a lovely promenade to stroll along and, all-in-all, a relaxing place to visit.
We moved on to Dolceacqua, a charming tiny Provençal village in the hills; its only claim to fame is that Monet spent time here painting the bridge over the river.
We strolled around, crossed the bridge (mandatory tourist thing) and found a lovely café, tucked in alongside a church, for a pitstop.
Back at the hotel just before 17:00, looking forward to ending a fantastic day with 5 courses of Italian deliciousness.
