Another super breakfast out on the terrace before setting off at 09:15 for St Maxime, 50 minutes away.
A 30 minute wait saw us onto the shuttle-ferry to St Tropez. Out on the water, a fresh breeze and sunshine. Super.
St Tropez was not what we expected. There were (as expected) private yachts by the dozen; by the score; maybe hundreds of them. Guessing, if they were all sold you’d raise north of a ½ billion (£, €, $ … what’s the difference!!).
We’d expected beaches and “the beautiful people”. We found shops selling designer clothes and restaurants with overpriced menus in streets crowded with tourists. Lunchtime revealed all the posh-people were on their yachts ignoring us, the riff-raff.
And despite all that, we really enjoyed our visit there.
A 14:30 shuttle-ferry took us back to St Maxine for a 2 hour visit. There was a Noddy Train available, but we were exhausted (mild heat stroke?) so we found a harbour-side pavement café where we rented a table by buying a few rounds of drinks.
We were back at the hotel for just after 17:00. Feet up and a much needed cool shower before dinner.
