Dalmatian Villages (Dubrovnik)

Friday, 4 November 2022

The weather took a turn for the worse today, not as bad as the forecast, but still overcast and breezy. No rain in the morning.

Our tour, “Quaint villages of the Dubrovnik coast" actually visited just one village, which wasn't actually quaint. It was a seaside strip of cafes, mostly closed. It's out of season.

Next onto a water mill. Well… we were greeted by a lot of local booze (that was encouraging) but, apart from that, it seemed an enterprising farmer had set up some fake “Ye Olde World Croatian Farm” to sell local produce, The water wheel itself was smaller than a kid’s toy and clearly had never been used to produce anything except tourist Euros.

They provided a snack of local ham (procuitto again) and cheese, on bread, with some wine (or was it vinegar) to wash it down. We felt bad for several of our party with mobility difficulties. Access to all areas, including the “snack”” room were over uneven ground and several rustic steps - enough of a challenge for everybody. The woodland was, to be fair, quite pretty (if not that different to most woodlands anywhere).

There were a constant stream of coaches coming and going -  there can't be many tourist attractions apart from “Old Town” to go to in this area.

We’ve have had nothing but great excursions up to now. There had to be one.
